Bhagwati Devi Temple, Dhamapur, Malvan, Sindhudurg

Bhagwati Devi Temple is situated on the banks of historical Dhamapur Lake at Dhamapur village of Malvan taluka in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, India. After climbing a few steps, the temple of Sateri Devi is seen first. Next to it is the ancient temple of Bhagwati Devi. The construction of this temple is more than 475 years old. The mind is pleased to see the beautiful idol of Goddess Bhagwati in the original stone sanctum. This idol is a quadrilateral and is adorned with various ornaments. The quadrilateral idol has a trishul in one hand, a sword in the other, a chakra in the third hand and a fourth hand is killing Mahishasura.

Dhamapur village is adorned with natural beauty situated at a distance of 15 kms from Malvan. Dhamapur Lake is the largest lake in Sindhudurg district located in this Dhamapur village. In the 16th century, in the year 1530, Nagesh Desai of Vijayanagar Empire, built this lake. Navratri Festival of Bhagwati Devi is celebrated with great enthusiasm.
