Ashtavane Ganesh Temple is situated at fantastically scenic area of outstanding natural beauty in Guhagar city of Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra, India. This east-facing Ganesh Temple has old history. Even though Ashtavane Ganesh Temple is not mentioned in the Puranas, it has the glory to be recorded in history.
Shri Ashtavane Swayambhu Ganpati has been situated here since time immemorial. The name “Ashtavane” may have been derived from the place. Because the place in this area is still called Ashtache Pani. From this, this temple got the name Ashtavane Ganesh Temple. Since time immemorial this ancestral Ganesha has been worshiped with respect. At the foothills of this Ganesha hill is the Kunbi community of farmers. All of them used to have darshan of Lord Ganesh as their farm was on the top of the hill of this Ganesha temple.
